June Darby: the Mother Figure
IT’S JUNE DARBY TIME.
Let me just start out by saying I’m so happy you commented on how June is written as a character first, and a female and a mother second and third respectively. Also, I love your statement on parents in children’s cartoons as being a rarely seen beast. I think TFP tackles the subject of traditional matriarchal and patriarchal roles in some very interesting ways, both when they’re challenging them (as in the case of June) and when they’re playing them intentionally and disturbingly straight (as in the case of Optimus which will be discussed later I’m sure).
