I don’t want to be an uguu villain defender putting decepticons in leather pants, but they really don’t do much EVIL, and they have a kill count lower than the Autobots. Megatron came back with dark energon and did some really insane and evil things, but at least under Starscream’s rule, the decepticons mined energon, went to retrieve relics, and generally minded their own business.  They were, of course, still at war with the Autobots, so killing Cliffjumper and sending Makeshift in to try and finish them off was prudent under these wartime circumstances.  We have to remember that the Autobots have killed multiple Steves.  The Autobots take EVERY opportunity to mess in the decepticons’ business like a terrorist cell.  They’re fighting a war, they want to wipe out the other side, and only Optimus seems willing to offer peace.  Arcee and Bulkhead would gladly see all the cons dead, and synth-en Ratchet killed indiscriminately.

Goodness, stop predicting my plot points and telling everyone exactly how I feel.

Seriously, this entire fic I’m working on now is based on… well, basically all of this.  I realized earlier that it would be way too easy to see this whole war as an established state trying to fight off the handful of radical rebels who had integrated with the natives.  In fact… from the Decepticon point of view, it would basically be the truth.

I also get irritated when no one remembers the grunts and soldiers.  So you have a valid point there; as far as the show goes, the ‘Cons have had many more casualties.

I have more or less realized that the positions of ‘good guy’ and ‘bad guy,’ in this case especially, would depend almost entirely on how the story was told.
