I watched Kung Fu Panda 2 recently, and forgot to write up my review. There’s not too much to say about it. I enjoyed the first Kung Fu Panda, and liked the second, as well. I’ve had always an interest in martial arts movies and kung fu “culture,” and Kung Fu Panda is about as deep as Ninja Turtles or Mortal Kombat in that regard—i.e., not at all. But that makes me enjoy the Kung Fu Panda movies more than the average CGI talking-animal flick. KFP2 has a lot of cute humor and fun action, with good characters, a vocal cameo from Jean-Claude Van Damme as a crocodile kung fu master, and stand-out performances from Gary Oldman and the great James Hong. I’m not typically a fan of Jack Black’s brand of broad humor, but Po is a cute, harmless character, and one could do a lot worse than Kung Fu Panda 2.
