I’m having a lot of trouble sending you an ‘ask’ or a ‘message,’ but maybe you’ll see this for the meme?: Lord Shen.Hmm, I’m not sure what’s happening :/ But okay, SHEN :D
How I feel about this character:
I think he’s awesome. He’s a pretty unique villain, not only in that he is a peacock which defies what people would expect from a villain, but just how truly maniacal is. If I were to compare him to another villain, I would use Scar from The Lion King. There’s obviously differences between them, but I think Shen has that similar insanity/vanity/power hunger that makes him a surprisingly ruthless villain when in spite of his lack of physical strength.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
No one. I can’t see him in a romantic relationship with anyone. Not truly. I know there’s some who see a sexual tension between him and Tigress for like, idk, a few split seconds or something, but even that felt more like he was attempting to humiliate a captive and not something he would actually ever follow through on. I just don’t think he’s capable of loving anyone other than the Soothsayer.
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Which obviously brings me to the Soothsayer. They are certainly OTP, imo. There’s the ambiguity of ages and the fact that Soothsayer was originally supposed to be his nanny before that story was dropped that keeps me from shipping them outright (although I remember seeing some convincing arguments for it back when the movie was first released), but he still obviously cares for her in a way that I think makes even him angry. So yeah.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
Oh…wow. Um, I don’t know if I can think of one. I agree with most of the praise he gets as a character. Maybe the thought that he is somehow better than Tai Lung as a villain. Because I have to disagree with that. He’s just different.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
Redemption. Sometimes we get villains that we don’t care one way or another if they die in the end and then we get villains where the writers make us root for the villain to do right. Shen is one of those characters for me. I think it’s because we get to see Shen through the eyes of the Soothsayer at several points so, through her, we’re invited to hope for him to finally have peace. But, alas, villains are villains so I understand why he had “die” in the end.
