Title: accompanied by a minor
Fandom: Transformers Prime
Summary: AU. Starscream doesn’t return to the Nemesis alone. This is in continuity with my earlier fic here: http://fannishcodex.tumblr.com/post/13954226183.
Disclaimer: I don’t own anything related to Transformers Prime. Octane is an OC from obfuscobble’s imagination.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Sorry it’s taken me forever to reply to this!
I’m glad you liked, and thank you for the feedback!
Thanks for answering my question. Octane looked good with both red and violet optics, but I can see how Dark Energon would make that permanent/he was born that way. And I was sorta thinking of that for Megatron too; glad you thought the same and worded it so well.
I liked keeping your name suggestion as Doll, and that part of Octane’s POV, where his imagination constantly sees her as real with feelings of her own. Part of that is because he has been isolated, with really only his procreator Starscream for company. And Starscream being an “ass” is normal to him, something he accepts without question, as he was born with Starscream…being Starscream. I think Octane will always hold a fondness for him, no matter what.
I like remembering Octane’s unique background with the cave. And it’s now leading to interesting plotbunnies—I had always thought of fic where Megatron and Octane have bonding time, and now it’s crystallizing to Megatron showing Octane one of the Energon mines, and Octane being all interested and something of a geology geek and curious about Megatron’s mining background, something Megs finds a novelty, as out of his past it’s usually his gladiator days that grab the most attention.
OMG, Megatron’s realize size=huggable for Octane is a really good wording of Octane’s feels on the reality, I really like that. It sorta sounds like what I was trying to get across, but going up one level into like this whole new understanding that just clicks.
I’m afraid Octane will develop some Daddy Issues to an extent. I didn’t exactly want to go there (don’t hurt Octane too badly too soon), but the plotbunnies in my head are developing that way, though it’s proving more complicated in my head.
Writing in Octane’s POV for this was very interesting. He can be a neat narrator revealing the other canon characters, and I just find it neat to find a real child POV of actual Nemesis/etc. happenings. Like…his POV does soften things, but not too much I think, just the right way where it makes the reality starker in comparison? Like, here…I think it came together into what Octane would really see with his young mind, and it brought a new, neat perspective to the TFP world. I mean, this is a child even younger than Bumblebee, and now I just find the POV of a real newborn to a race with such a history and that can grow so old (in human years) very intriguing.
The intention was to kinda have Octane meet the whole Nemesis crew, even just a little introduction.
I find KO surprisingly good with Octane. Either off-screen or later embedded in fic, Breakdown will totally teach Octane all the puns.
BDKO is so fun to write. At first it was intimidating, because I wanted it right, but then it ended up kinda flowing, like it was real banter between the two. Yeah, KOBD will be good for Octane—they’ll be great uncles.
That was pretty much Octane’s exact thinking on Soundwave’s superiority over Airachnid. I love Octane’s hero worship of Soundwave. It just seemed like a natural development given that Soundwave is probably the first Cybertronian other than Starscream that Octane’s met, and Soundwave…being Soundwave, i.e. competent. I’m enjoying trying to pin down what Soundwave thinks of Octane. Think he already has some regard for him, especially when giving into Octane’s request about Doll’s bed—and on that, I had hoped to misdirect and make the reader think Soundwave had silently refused Octane, but no, he was totally just immediately doing it.
I find that so far, it’s very very easy to make a number of the Eradicons female, as there’s no way we’ve heard all of them talk, and I find the thought neat.
It just felt like Octane would feel even some compassion for Airachnid. Octane strikes me as having a normal status of never bearing anyone ill will at first glance/meeting. Like, it would take a lot to make him really angry at/hate anyone.
I like how Starscream’s subtle dismissal of Octane catching sight of his wound came together. Starscream may see it as more bravado on his part, and genuine nonchalance, since Megatron has injured him worse; and the priority is to keep Octane calm in his new surroundings. But in reality and subconsciously for Starscream, it is a loving action. I loved having that come right before Starscream is more recognizably IC interacting with Knock Out, and adding in glimpses of KO’s sympathy when it came to Octane.
