Half rant and half…err…non-rant post?

After watching the second season premiere of TFP I wanted to write something about it. Gonna be honest, since watching the show for the first time I was looking forward to liking it, but sadly it really hasn’t impressed me :( I feel like I’m missing something because I’m always seeing on tumblr “OMG THIS SHOW IS AMAZING” That kind of reactions make you afraid of saying otherwise in fear of being picked on, you know?

The character designs are great, I am in love with the look of the show (Megatron’s design alone has made me a fangirl. But I’ve got a weakness for big eyebrows). Its the character development (or lack thereof) that makes me go “meh.” I figured since it’s the first season it’s gonna have some kinks, and it’ll work out, but it’s like watching an Inuyasha episode: The same thing nearly happens in every episode! I will admit there are a couple of great episodes but majority of the episodes feel like the same thing happens. Things like Miko getting in trouble (and never seems to learn her lesson), and Bulkhead and Arcee taking center stage. The second season just started off with one episode so who knows, maybe they’ll have more balance among the characters. Let everyone get a chance to shine and do something, instead of letting Bulkhead and Arcee do everything.

And speaking of Arcee, I am all for strong women figures, but to me it’s like she goes overboard. Can’t a woman be tough and have brains too? Does she always have to charge in blindly with guns blazing? After the episode with Starscream in the first season I thought that would help her wise up, but then I just see the same “RAWR I AM TOUGH” sequence in the new episode (and really, she does go RAWR at the end).

Let’s get to the Decepticons. Why don’t we just call this show “Megatron and the Gang” *SHOT* Autobots, you go sit in that corner and think about how you can be as awesome as they are. Megatron was on the ball in the new episode, and even Starscream made me feel like a giddy fangirl XD My only issue is Soundwave. Like Bumblebee, I want him to talk. YOU HAVE FRANK WELKER IN THE SHOW WHY ARE YOU MAKING SOUNDWAVE SILENT? */rage* But other than that, these guys are far more interesting than the heroes of this show. Is that bad? Should I feel guilty? I kinda do » « This is the G1 fan speaking, but Megatron should lead the charge more often like his counterpart did. Granted his G1-self failed often, but hey, the bad guys were supposed to lose. If this new and vicious TFP Megatron did so however, they would probably win more than the Autobots >D

Actually I got a lot more to say but I’m not gonna get too nitpicky. These are just my personal thoughts I wanted to get out, so no one get offended by them, please As a fan of Transformers I want to support this show, and shall remain optimistic that this second season changes my opinion for the better :)

I don’t mind the “Megatron and the Gang” show. ;) No, seriously, TFP’s Decepticons alone are enough for me to like the show.  But I think season 2 will change things up for the Autobot side.

^^This. XD In general I find the ‘Cons more interesting as characters with clearer motivations, but that may be personal preference.

I do want more character development. But consider this. You essentially have two primary protagonists (Megs, OP) and then a whole SHITTON of secondary protags that follow closely after them. Five ‘Cons, four ‘Bots and three humans, 12 all together. That is a TON of character development with only so much screen time available. We’ve only got one season behind us, in which they still managed to give each of those characters a moment or two to shine. We just need to be patient, they’ve only had so much time to accomplish so much with so many characters, (and if they cut some out it wouldn’t feel as much like TF). Given that they are doing some really amazing story crafting in this I’m okay with how they’ve balanced plot and character vignettes/spotlights currently. I just hope we see more development in the future. Frankly, they’re already doing better than G1 did.

I think Arcee has motivation for acting the way she does. I have an OC who shares that in common with her, but it’s because she’s a risk taker, which stems from poor value of self and a desperate need to feel alive (centuries in imperfect stasis lock drifting through space will do that to you). With Arcee, I think she’s just desperate not loose yet another person she cares about, but there may be other factors we aren’t privy to yet.

And the writers have told us Soundwave will speak, and sometime in season two. I love that he hasn’t though actually, I think it’s part of his unique character development. Given that they seem to be building up to it, the moment when Soundwave speaks will probably blow all our minds.
