Oh man, I’m the same way with fic plotbunnies—start on one idea, then get seized on another, and want to immediately start that one, but want to finish the previous, then I get another idea…I get too many plotbunnies at once for all fandoms, including Kung Fu Panda.

Ohman, I’m impressed by the action scenes, writing action’s always been hard for me. The Tigress and Po characterization rings true for me. Ohman, and the dynamics/characterization with all the Five.~ Mantis and his acupuncture needles, part two, along with Viper, with bonus Crane. <3 AND ZOMG, I WAS TOTALLY CAUGHT OFF GUARD WHEN PO REVEALED THAT THIS FIC WAS AFTER KFP2 AND PO’S ALL MESSED UP STILL AFTER IT AND WITH SHEN’S DEATH…. ;O; ;O; ;O; Ohgod, Po being so regretful and thinking he could’ve saved Shen in every sense of the word…. ;_; And it just makes me hurt for Lord Shen again—both him and Po. OMG, Tigress’ speech to Po was the best. XD XD XD I hope to see more KFP fic from you! :D
I know, I feel bad about my unfinished fics, especially when those ideas still bug me…but lately I’ve been feeling worse about the ideas I never share/post, so now I’m thinking, ‘screw it,’ I’m gonna get it off my chest, whether they’ll be consistently updated/finished or not. Though I still hold hope that I will finish some of my long term fics someday. I really want to finish my “The Life and Times of Lord Shen.”

Yeah, and I’ll try to write more, but all self deprecation aside I feel more comfortable doing comics then I am writing fanfictions, so I can’t really see myself doing to many KFP fics, considering how I really dislike my writing skills.

Haha, well, in the beginning I like how he never spoke. I know it’s something other people have already mentioned (more specifically, that artist, whom is the reason I found your story in the first place), but it makes so much sense in context of the film and just the life of Shen in general. His home life is pretty much how I always thought it would be, with the Soothsayer being more of a parent then his own, and that constant, looming struggle with his health and how he is so very different is super sweet to read.
Because it must have been a hard thing, to be so young yet so very different. He isn’t even treated the same way by his parents if he were born like every other peacock, which knowing how Shen ends up in his life is great because he probably never was capable of coping with the feeling that he was broken and defective, and his parents could never truly love him because of that.
I’m currently reading the lastest chapter, and I gotta say the entire situation with knocking a kid out of a window and then being a total badass and saving the kid was pretty bitchin’. The way Soothsayer stood up and protected Shen from his own father was rad, and the way Shen gets all daddy butthurt was heartbreaking for me to read. But maybe it’s the fact he is the most adorable 5-year-old and I cannot even handle all this cute—
To be honest, I am reluctant to read any other Shen backstory fanfictions because of your story. It pretty much is exactly how I see Shen’s life playing out and I am scared I’m going to run into one that has him rape a panda or something?? Does that happen I don’t know but I FEAR IT.

OMG, I LOVE long discourse like this. Really, I love long feedback on my fic. I do write for me (I wanted Shen pastfic and at the time I couldn’t really find any), but also for an audience that’ll hopefully like it, and I always want to know what the audience thinks, what struck them the most about the fic, what they liked, and see if my intent worked out—it gives me a clue as to what I’m doing right and just encourages me a lot. :D :D :D
And I’m glad a lot of what I was going for seemed to work for you, like Soothsayer being more of a parent and 4-5 year old Shen being the cutest and all the issues between him and his parents.
You found the fic through mitch-el, right? Didn’t (s)he do an amazing job? I gushed about it below as ‘Dishay,’ my username on deviantart where I just mostly favorite fanart I love. I just saw it first, and instantly thought that’s how I see young Shen—and then I read the description and spazzed out from excitement.

I honestly don’t entirely agree with it, but it’s an interesting view. I’m really suggesting this fic for its chapter 3 with regards to his past, again with a bleak hard look at the panda genocide and actually dealing with a fanon I’ve had about how some pandas survived and an expansion on the Boss Wolf’s unwillingness to fire on his own pack.

I’ll quote adorablyrotten/Tora on why it’s so awesome: “A very sad but beautiful, extremely well-written one-shot about Shen’s childhood and what drove him to massacre the Panda village, aside from just the prophecy. One of the most interesting things about this story is how much of is through the perspective of his parents, so you get some real insight into what they really felt and thought about their poor, sickly son. The author has promised to update this story with different themed one-shots in the future, so here’s hoping the later additions are as great as the first.” I recommend this one the most.
And there’s another that I really like, though it’s way dark…but given your fear, I won’t link it (though it’s not a panda). I’m not sure if I like that part specifically per se, but I liked a lot of the psychology going on and the other descriptions of his past.
