It’s like Soundwave helping Starscream out after losing his T-Cog.~
Y’know…I think Starscream and Soundwave did leave each other on good terms. Like Starscream trying to articulate his feelings about turning over a new leaf with regards to being loyal to Megatron and Soundwave listening. I could maybe see Soundwave dragging Starscream back to Megatron, only to play back that old Starscream attempt at articulation to show that, yes, his Second-in-Command was ready to change, and then Airachnid screwed him over…someone I think Soundwave would still be displeased with, after her obvious attempt at mutiny. So, like maybe two birds with one stone there.
I like this headcanon. I’m gonna try to tie it in to my headcanon that the reason there’s so little of Soundwave in “Orion Pax” is that he/she/it was trying to get Orion out of the Decepticons asap. The reason for troll-wave sending Arcee to the arctic is that it was a direct command from Megatron… if Megs hadn’t said anything, ‘Wave might have decided not to interfere. Another possible reason for troll-wave is that ‘Wave knew (due to being the all-knowing surveillance) that the Autobots didn’t have Optimus’ memories yet, and wanted them to get that first, so that they could restore OP’s status as a Prime and things could go back to the way they were. This same rush to get Orion out is why the “sanitizing” of the Decepticon data core was done so badly, leaving Optimus’ real stats behind a simple firewall that a librarian could hack through.
My headcanon ‘Wave is a bit of a sentimentalist. Just a bit.
Anyways, I can tie this in as both being for the sake of Megatron’s mental health. ‘Wave might bring Starscream back due to the “co-” part in “co-dependant abusive couple”, and rushed Orion’s exit when he/she/it saw that Meatron was pained at being called Megatronus because that dregged up old memories of his and Orion’s (b)romance and how they parted ways.
My headcanon ‘Wave is also utterly loyal to Megatron only and doesn’t really care about the means to a more stable end. Even if those means include bringing back an abused Second-in-Commmand.
(also, my bro-in-law reminded me this past weekend that we can’t really tell what gender the authors intend Soundwave to be, hence the he/she/it… I can’t think of a single instance of the other TFs using a pronoun for ‘Wave - though maybe I missed something?)
Glad you like that headcanon. :)
I do like the thought of Soundwave very subtly, successfully, subverting Megatron’s orders since he felt having Orion Pax around was not the best thing for Megatron. I see Soundwave as only being loyal to Megatron, and that would include trying to do right by him as much as possible, even in spite of orders.
After talk about gender in Transformers and ideas of canonical “genderbending,” Soundwave is my top choice in TFP for confirming as a “she.” There’s something about TFP!Soundwave that makes me think the character could be easily female, not just male as in other TF canons. However, I don’t think Soundwave’s been addressed with a pronoun, and it’d be interesting if they kept that up and left that matter ambiguous.
Soundwave, for all his/her silence, creepiness, apparent coldness, strikes me as sentimental, since he/she is deeply loyal to Megatron. I feel like Soundwave’s one of the posterboys/girls for loyalty. Again, his/her typing is pretty much frantic when searching for Megatron in the S1 finale, and Soundwave finally snaps at a direct threat/challenge to Megatron. Before, Starscream’s always careful not to outright challenge/threaten Megatron in front of Soundwave, knowing that Soundwave will essentially beat the shit out of him if he does, so we never get a chance to see Soundwave snap until Airachnid fails to get to memo about Soundwave’s loyalty and badassery.
