Jackie!!!!!!!
Guys, this is the first episode this season that I feel deserves a good analysis. Like masters and students, it examines two reactions to a single theme revolving around the differences in autobot and decepticon leadership. Ahhh, TFP analysis, IT HAS BEEN TOO LONG.NGL, I went into this episode expecting to be underwhelmed-to-unimpressed and was therefore pleasantly surprised by almost everything! There were no infuriatingly simplistic plot contrivances, no moments that made me facepalm, quite a few witty turns of dialogue… Wheeljack was more interesting and Dreadwing was WAY more interesting than I expected. The episode served adequately to provide both more backstory on the Wreckers and to expand the scope of the universe as a whole.
And best of all, there wasn’t anything that was metatextually gross! No oversimplified, white-washed cop-out of an ending, no strong-arming a moral lesson that wasn’t otherwise portrayed in the episode down our throats…
And to top it all off, the structure of the ep (i.e., juxtaposing Dreadwing and Wheeljack, their respective motivations for flaunting authority and the reactions of their respective leaders to that) was actually narratively interesting. At this point, I have so little faith in the ability of the TFP writers to tell a good story that I am legitimately shocked.
In other words, I can’t wait to read your anaylsis of this one! :3
