My favorite part of Legend of Korra was the part where absolutely no one drew attention to the fact that she's female.

YES TO THIS

I think the only time Avatar has ever made a big deal out of a kickass girl being a kickass girl was with Katara in season 1, first with Sokka’s sexism, and then when she challenged Pakku for not teaching her solely based on the fact that she’s a woman. Both situations were handled well and there was no need for further debate or argument when, in season 2, Ozai’s Angels came in and started kicking ass all around the place.

And now this bullshit about “UGH WHY IS THE NEW AVATAR A GIRL I CAN’T RELATE TO A GIRL MAIN CHARACTER!” No, you know what? Shut the hell up. If a 20-something woman can watch a show with a leading 12-year-old boy, then a teenage boy can watch a show with a leading teenage girl. Male protagonists are the default here, to the point where it’s acceptable and reasonable for girls to see themselves in them but boys can’t see themselves in female protagonists, so I applaud Bryke for not only making their leading character a woman, but also not making a big deal about it. It’s natural. It’s okay.

So Korra, you kick some ass, and in the future if people whine about your gender in your show, flip them off and don’t let the bastards grind you down.
