I CANNOT HANDLE
WHAT I JUST WATCHED
OH MERCILESS PRIMUS
ETA:BREAKDOWN HOW COULD YOU, knock out is going to be devastatedI was kinda shipping Breakdown/Airachnid before (I blame it on their Firefly reunion and the fact that they did have an episode-long interaction), so that line was super fun for me. But I also still ship Knockout/Breakdown and Knockout/Starscream. Seriously, given all the Knockout/Starscream interaction before (I HOPE IT RETURNS EVENTUALLY), I’m so okay with Breakdown checking out other ‘cons too. XD OT4?
Mmmm. Orgytime? I guess I’m just frustrated because Hasbro’s already dropped the ball on the “Knock Out is gay” thing. So I guess seeing them “confirm” Breakdown and Airachnid kind of comes across as a slap in the face? It’s like they’re saying ‘NO REALLY, NO GAY ROBOTS HERE’— even though KO still acts as flamboyant as always? With less overt hitting on people, I guess…. But I tend to be kind of oversensitive about LGBTQ visibility in the media, so. This is an issue near and dear to my heart.
I definitely can’t deny that Breakdown and Airachnid have chemistry, though. And I’m not saying people can’t or shouldn’t ship them by any means. I’m just disappointed.
I don’t know too much about it, but from what I understand, I think Hasbro should’ve just left the whole thing alone and not actually respond or be affected by it.
I never thought of Knockout’s possibly wider connection to the whole issue of LGBTQ visibility in the media, which I find interesting. Though admittedly, I don’t think Hasbro wanted to get involved in that larger issue either way, I think they just wanted a successful show that would also sell toys. But it does seem disappointing if they don’t stay utterly neutral but actually go against the LGBTQ impression.
And I actually thought Knockout may be less overtly hitting on people since he’s had less of a chance with those who’ve caught his interest, like Starscream who’s gone (there’s something there between them I think, even just a little bit). And amusingly enough Optimus, they just haven’t interacted again since, what, “Speed Metal?” It just reminds me of this mini tf-prime livejournal comm. discussion about Knockout being more straight-to-business with Megatron v. his playfullness with Starscream. Knockout does change his manner slightly based on who he’s interacting with.
My personal fanon on TF in general, actually: I think the robots themselves don’t have the homosexual and heterosexual division. It’s something I’d like to work in fic one day. It’s something I think you can work into and explore in an alien society. Why do they have to that division like humans do? And I think it sorta could play around with how there seems to be more guybots than femmebots—is there a reason why there seems to be more on one side of the gender line and less on the other? I mean, could there be an in-universe reason, besides the factors surrounding the ficitional universe’s creation. And yet I think it was a transformer named Strika (originally from the controversial “Beast Machines” show) that explored the idea that a cybertronian doesn’t have to look “humanly female” to be a femmebot—because I think her design wasn’t what we would think female, but her voice was female and she was identified as, well, a “she.” So that was again exploring gender in an alien robot society like Cybertronians.
Breakdown may be a little interested or just crushing a bit, but I don’t really think Airachnid will reciprocate.
