as a much-needed break from covering the excess of festival fare i have subjected myself to over the last few weeks, i thought it’d be aiight to sneak in a screening of rupert wyatt’s apes-going-ape thriller rise of the planet of the apes (really hate that title) and bad trailers be damned: what, for me, was initially among the least anticipated of this year’s summer blockbusters somehow came out the other end as one of the year’s best – and that isn’t simply just a product of festival fatigue or low expectations.
