This could probably be applied for a few different continuities but I have Prime in mind because I just finished watching it.
So, if Megatron had been allowed to overthrow their leaders and become the new Prime or whatever would that have actually been a bad thing? The war probably wouldn’t have started for one thing, and I think Megatron would have made an awesome leader. I mean, think about it; Megatron wanted equality and freedom for all of them, so it stands to reason if he had just been given what he wanted he would have ensured that they had that. The whole reason people believed in his cause was because he understood them; he was just as low down in the hierarchy as they were.
He understood all of the inequalities and corruption because he’d experienced them, and what better way to ensure they don’t happen again then to put himself in charge? That way he can makes sure all of those injustices aren’t repeated. And, ok, maybe using violence isn’t the best way but come on! He was a gladiator, he literally had to fight for his survival, and then fought his way up the hierarchy; violence is all he knows, so of course that’s what he’s going to rely on!
And I really don’t think he would’ve abused his power had he been made Prime, because that would make him just as bad as the people he was trying to overthrow and I doubt he would have let that happen (of course at this point the was still mentally stable and hadn’t reached the level of insanity he has now).
He probably would’ve made a better leader than Optimus. He would have gotten things done without worrying about the morality of it, or worrying about trying to please everyone. Things would have been much simpler if he had just been given what he wanted.
And I really think that it would have stopped him from going completely insane and resulting to him using violence for everything. We know Megatron doesn’t like to be controlled or have to answer to anyone but himself, which he’d probably had to do his entire life up until that point, so becoming the new leader would have been as much for his benefit as Cybertron’s. It would’ve meant that there was no one higher up than him who could try and impose their authority on him and he would finally have had the freedom he wanted.
I really don’t think anyone gave much thought to where Megatron was coming from with his ideas, they just went “No! Violence is wrong” Even though they probably use violence to repress rebellions and things all the time. No wonder Megatron went all evil.
Somewhere along the line this just turned into me ranting about my headcanons for Megatron and this is really incoherent and badly structured but still.I just don’t see why Megatron always has to be made into the bad guy before he had actually become any sort of real enemy Megatron :c bby let me love you
THIS. I want to try to reply to this with more coherent thoughts, but I want to say I like this, that this touches upon things I’ve been thinking about TFP!Megatron too. Like, that flashback was epic in style and content, but it was still Ratchet’s POV and it just got me all curious about Megatron(us)’ side of the story which is something I still want to see in canon badly and kinda think canon will give us that eventually and NOT screw it up for me
